The goal of this pledge is to recruit and retain landlords and property managers who are willing to rent housing units to housing choice voucher holders. It is our goal to recruit landlords who are ready and willing to rent to persons who may be a U.S. Veteran choosing to pay rent via a Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Voucher or may be a person who chooses to pay rent via a Housing Choice Voucher (formerly known as "Section 8"). Signing this pledge does not obligate you to anything, rather it demonstrates your support for our community and simply a willingness to consider leasing a housing unit to person choosing to pay via a housing voucher.
We the undersigned agree to support the Landlords Opening Doors Campaign to lease up housing voucher participants, with a priority on housing veterans.
We agree to consider a potential tenant's application for tenancy irrespective of the applicant's use of a Housing Choice Voucher or VASH Voucher.
We agree to consider providing a 12-month or long lease to tenants choosing to pay with a housing choice voucher.
We agree to engage the conversation with Landlords Opening Doors about how to improve the housing voucher process. If there are any issues, problems, or delays related to the leasing of a rental unit to a VASH/HCV participant, we encourage you to allow us to help remedy the issue.
We agree to hold our housing provider agencies accountable to a high level of customer service and responsiveness.
If we choose to terminate the lease of a housing choice voucher tenant, we will work with the housing voucher provider to conduct an exit-interview to better inform the process and to support their commitment to high quality customer service for participating landlords.
